Rational Numbers:
Generally, the rational numbers are defined in different ways as follows,
Rational number is a number with the ratio of two whole numbers. So thus rational number is in the form of simple fraction. It can be written as x / y. Here x and y are whole numbers but y is not equal to 0.
Rational number is a number with the ratio of two integers. It can be written as x / y. Here x and y are integers but y is not equal to 0. The set of all rational numbers are named as rationals. These rational set is indicated as Q. Thus the q represents quotient.
Understanding what are relatively prime numbers is always challenging for me but thanks to all math help websites to help me out.
Properties of rational numbers:
The general properties of rational numbers are following as,
A. Unlimited Representation:
All rational number are represented with unlimited number of ways. For example,
1/3 = 2/6 = 3/9…
B. Perfect Rationals are the Integers:
If a rational is a perfect rational, then denominator of that fraction is 1. Such as,
5/1, 6/1, 7/1…
C. Changing forms:
The rational numbers can recall with the multiplication of both numerator and denominator of the rationals by 1.
Example:
Write 2/7 and so that the numerator is 10
Well, 2 * 5 = 10, and multiplying any number by 1 don’t change that number,
So, we have: 2/7 * 5/5 = 10/35
D. Writing Rationals in their simplest form:
Rationals can be written in simplest form by factoring the numerator and the denominator with their prime factors.
Example:
10/16 = (2*5)/ (2*2*2*2)
= (2/2)*(5/ (2*2*2))
= 1*5/ (2*2*2)
= 5/8

Examples:
1) Is 2 is a rational number?
Solution:
Here 2 can be written as fraction by the use of 1.
That is 2 = 2/1
So 2 is rational number.
2) Is 0.22 is a rational number?
Solution:
Here 0.22 can be written as fraction by the use of 100.
That is 0.22 = 22/100
So 0.22 is rational number.
3) Is 12 is a rational number?
Solution:
Here 12 can be written as fraction by the use of 1.
That is 12 = 12/1
So 12 is rational number.
4) Is 5/7 is a rational number?
Solution:
Here 5/7 is a fraction.
So 5/7 is rational number.
